Wednesday, October 11, at Holy Trinity: Eucharist at 10.30 a.m. Film Night at 7.30 p.m. For the autumn months of September, October and November, we are watching and discussing the trilogy Trois Couleurs by Krysztof Kieslowski. Filmed in French and Polish (we will watch with subtitles!), the films’ titles refer to the colours of the French flag: bleu, blanc, rouge. The films are ambitious, yet intimate, meditations on personal ‘liberté, égalité, fraternité’, which raise metaphysical and moral questions. Released in 1993 and 1994, the trilogy is considered one of the masterpieces of cinema. This month we will be watching the second of the films, Trois Couleurs: Blanc, which depicts Karol, a Polish man living in Paris. After his French wife divorces him in humiliating circumstances, he loses his everything: money, residency, and friends. As a beggar in Warsaw, Karol begins his effort to restore equality to his life.
